BRIAN MACAULAY, MD
FOR LITTLETON PUBLIC SCHOOL BOARD
VOTE FOR A BRIGHTER FUTURE FOR OUR KIDS!
WHY I'M RUNNING
My entire career has centered around public service and teaching. I chose Emergency Medicine as a specialty because it allows me to care for all patients in need – regardless of their race, sex, background, ability to pay or their citizenship. It is an honor to serve our nation’s public by providing them with the highest level of care possible. For about 20 years as a physician I have also had the privilege of teaching medical students and Emergency Medicine physicians. I am very proud to have personally taught over 200 Emergency Medicine physicians throughout my career. It is gratifying to know that these physicians will go on to serve our public just as I have throughout my career.
My daughter recently graduated from Heritage last May, and had a great experience there. My son is enrolled in Heritage for next year. I am running for the LPS Board because of my experiences with my two other daughters, whom I don’t believe were offered learning environments that they needed from LPS. One is quiet and needed in-person teacher interaction to learn. But during COVID this in-person learning environment was not offered at LPS. My second daughter did not thrive in large classroom settings. My wife and I knew she needed smaller classroom settings to learn. Most LPS classes were large, with over 30 children per class.
My wife and I made tough decisions. We sent both daughters to private schools where we knew they could get the learning environments they needed. We were fortunate in that we could afford to do this and had this option. But most LPS families don’t have this option. They can’t afford to send their children to private schools. It's not fair to our LPS families to not be provided the learning environments that their kids often need.
I am running for the Board to improve the learning environments and educational outcomes for ALL of our families in LPS. I will use my public servant approach in Emergency Medicine and my teaching experience to raise all of our LPS children to their highest level of educational achievement.
Please join me! Vote for Brian Macaulay, MD for the Littleton Public School Board on November 7, 2023!
VISION
01
Focus On Academic Excellence For All Students.
Purpose of Education
One of my greatest passions is educating my children. From an early age, I learned the importance of a strong education from my father, an immigrant from Ireland. My father understood that education was essential to create opportunities in life and to develop students as critical thinkers.
02
Listen To and Support Teachers by Removing Obstacles To Student Learning.
Teachers understand what is needed to effectively teach our children. We need to listen to them more carefully. Among the priorities that both teachers and parents consistently identify is the need to decrease class sizes. Our classes are simply too large within the district; we need to prioritize making them smaller.
03
Respect Parents as Partners in Education and as The Primary Educators on Issues Such as Values, Identity and Beliefs.
My wife Ann and I have been blessed with five children. Like all parents, we love our children deeply, have the best understanding of what makes them flourish, and are the best suited to make decisions about their wellbeing.
04
Ensure That Our Schools Are Safe.
Our youngest and most vulnerable children within Littleton Public Schools deserve a school environment that is safe from outside threats. Currently there are only two School Resource Officers that cover all of our elementary schools in the district. As a Board member, I will prioritize ensuring that each of our elementary schools have their own dedicated School Resource Officer in each of our schools.
